Encounters are procedures and/or diagnoses for the same patient, on the same day, with the same provider. This can span across multiple claims.
Examples:
Procedure + Diagnosis: MRI scans on patients WITH a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Procedure + Procedure: Left heart cath with coronary angiography WITH a bypass graft imaging.
How do I create an Encounters code set?
When creating a new code set, use 'Encounters' rather than 'Total Claims'
Add a combination of both procedure and diagnosis codes
You can also EXCLUDE codes or groups of codes as part of an Encounters search
