Adding the MCP to your organization's ChatGPT account

This guide walks you through connecting the MedScout MCP server to your ChatGPT workspace and deploying it to your organization. Once complete, your team can use MedScout's provider intelligence and targeting tools directly within ChatGPT.

Prerequisites

  • A ChatGPT Business or Enterprise workspace where you are a workspace owner or admin. Setup only needs to be done once, by one admin.

  • A MedScout account with valid credentials.

  • Developer mode / custom MCP connectors turned on for your workspace. If you don't see a Create button in Step 3, an admin can enable it under Workspace settings > Permissions & Roles > Connected Data. See OpenAI's developer mode guide for details.

Already set up? If your ChatGPT admin has already added MedScout to your workspace, you don't need to follow these steps. You'll simply be prompted to sign in with your MedScout credentials on first use. If you see a "Not connected" message when trying to use MedScout, check with your admin to confirm the setup is complete.

Setup Part 1: Create the MedScout app

Step 1: Open Workspace settings

  • Go to chatgpt.com and sign in.

  • Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner.

  • Select Workspace settings.

Step 2: Go to Plugins

In the left menu of Workspace settings under Plugins, click Apps.

  • Note: The Apps page may show a loading spinner that never finishes. Waiting for this to load is not necessary.

  • Simply click Create to continue.

Step 3: Create the MedScout app

  • Fill in the new app form as shown below:

Field

Value

Name

MedScout MCP

Description

A brief description of what MedScout does for your team

Ex. MedScout Data

MCP server URL

https://mcp.medscout.io/mcp

Authentication

OAuth (the default)

⚠️ Important: The URL must end in /mcp. If /mcp is missing, the connection will not work.

  • Check the acknowledgment box at the bottom of the form.

  • You don't need to change anything under Advanced settings.

  • Click Create.

Creating the app can take a minute. Once complete, continue to Part 2.

Setup Part 2: Connect and test

Step 4: Open the Plugins menu

  • Return to the main ChatGPT page.

  • Open the Plugins menu.

  • MedScout MCP now appears in the list.

Step 5: Connect MedScout

  • Click MedScout MCP, then click Connect.

  • You'll be redirected to sign in to MedScout. Complete the login with your MedScout credentials.

  • After a moment you'll return to ChatGPT, and MedScout MCP will show as connected.

Step 6: Test it in a chat

  • Start a new chat. MedScout MCP now appears in the list of available tools.

  • Ask a MedScout question to confirm it's working. Ex. "Show me the top 10 providers by total knee replacement volume in San Diego County."

  • ChatGPT will call MedScout and return results in the chat.

Setup Part 3: Publish to your workspace

Until you publish it, MedScout MCP is only available to you. Publishing makes it available to everyone in your workspace. Only workspace owners and admins can publish.

Step 7: Open Plugins and manage the app

  • In the Plugins menu, select MedScout MCP.

  • Select the 3-dot menu on the right, and select Manage.

Step 8: Publish to workspace

  • Scroll down to the Manage app section and click Publish to workspace.

  • The publish dialog can take a minute to load. Let it finish.

  • Select and read both risk documents. Once complete, select the check boxes under both to acknowledge that they have been reviewed.

  • Once all 3 check boxes are selected under the 2 documents, you can click Publish.

  • You'll see an App published confirmation. MedScout MCP is now available to your workspace.

What happens for end users?

  • Once the app is published, users open the Plugins menu in ChatGPT. MedScout MCP appears in their list.

  • They click MedScout MCP, then Connect, and sign in with their own MedScout credentials.

  • After that, MedScout is available in any chat.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

App won't connect or tools don't load

Check that the MCP server URL is exactly https://mcp.medscout.io/mcp, including /mcp at the end. Edit the app to fix it.

Apps page shows a spinner that never stops

This is a ChatGPT loading issue. The Create button still works, so you can continue without waiting.

No Create button in Workspace settings → Apps

Custom MCP apps may be turned off. Enable developer mode under Permissions & Roles → Connected Data, and confirm you're a workspace owner or admin.

Sign-in to MedScout fails

Make sure your MedScout account is active and you're using the same login method you normally use (e.g., the right Google account).

Users can't see MedScout MCP

Confirm the app was published to the workspace (Step 8), not just created. Ask users to refresh ChatGPT.

Publish dialog is slow to appear

Give it a minute. Publishing can take a while to load.
