Prerequisites
Your Copilot Studio admin has already added the MedScout MCP server, published the agent, and shared it with you or your organization
You have an active MedScout account
Admin? If MedScout hasn't been set up yet, see Connecting MedScout to Microsoft Copilot Studio for the one-time admin setup guide.
Step 1: Open Microsoft Teams or Copilot
Open Microsoft Teams or the Microsoft 365 Copilot app from your app launcher or browser.
Step 2: Add the MedScout agent
Your admin should have sent you a link to the agent. Open the link, and Teams shows the agent's page. Click Add.
The agent appears in the agent list on the left in Teams. If your admin made the agent available in Microsoft Copilot, adding it installs it in both Teams and Microsoft Copilot. To ask it a question in Microsoft Copilot, enter @, select MedScout from the list, enter your question, and press Enter.
If you don't have the link, ask your admin to send it — only people who have access to the agent can use the link to install it. If your admin listed MedScout in your organization's agent store, you can also find it under Built for your org in the Teams app store or Built by your org in the Microsoft 365 Agent Store.
Step 3: Sign in with your MedScout credentials
The first time MedScout needs your data, the agent shows a connection card. Click Connect and complete the MedScout sign-in and any consent steps in the separate window that opens. When the connection succeeds, the window closes and the agent automatically retries your request. If you see Connection failed, click Try again to refresh the connection status and retry.
You only need to do this once. Copilot doesn't store your credentials, and it asks you to reconnect when your sign-in expires or is revoked.
Step 4: Start asking questions
Once connected, you can ask the agent questions using natural language. MedScout tools are available to the agent automatically — just describe what you need.
Example prompts:
Find providers: "Find orthopedic surgeons in Dallas, TX"
Look up a provider: "Show me details for NPI 1234567890"
Search by procedure: "Who is performing the most knee replacements in my territory?"
Get referral data: "Show me referral patterns for Dr. Smith"
Check volume trends: "What are the volume trends for CPT 27447 in Houston?"
Review your AI searches: "Show me my top 5 ai searches"
The agent will use MedScout tools behind the scenes and return the results directly in your chat.
Tips for best results
Be specific — include location, specialty, or procedure details when possible
Ask follow-up questions — the agent remembers context within a session
Use provider names or NPIs — either works for looking up specific providers
Mention your territory — the agent can scope results to your assigned territory
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
Prompted to sign in every time | Your session may have expired — sign in again and it should persist |
"Not connected" or auth errors | Check with your admin that the MedScout agent is published and your account is active |
"Connection failed" on the connection card | Click Try again to refresh the connection status and retry |
Asked to reconnect | Your sign-in expired or was revoked — click Connect and sign in again |
Agent doesn't recognize MedScout commands | Make sure you're chatting with the correct agent (not the default Copilot) |
You can install the agent but can't chat with it, or the link doesn't work | Only people who have access to the agent can use the link — ask your admin to confirm the agent is shared with you |
The installation link doesn't work in the Teams mobile app | Installation links can't be used in the Teams mobile app. Ask your admin to show the agent in the Teams app store |
Agent doesn't appear in Teams after adding it | Teams caches app information. Sign out and back in (desktop app) or refresh your browser (web app) |
Agent doesn't show the latest changes after an update | Enter Start over in your existing conversation to begin a new one |
No results returned | Try broadening your search — check spelling of names, locations, or codes |
